Tips For Dealing With Assorted Varieties of Carpet Stains

If you have children or pets that share your living quarters then you will definitely have to learn the different methods for removing stains from your carpets that they can leave. Fortunately, kids don't drink wine or coffee but your pets are another story. Animal stains in carpets can be persistent and also there is the odor factor to consider as well.

Be Patient and Gentle

What ever you do, don't rub whatever is spilled into your carpet. Use a dry cotton towel and patiently rub back and forth. If you must dab down, do so gently but never stomp on the towel as it will drive the stain deeper into the carpet.

Use Baking Soda

Also, bear in mind that sometimes it is best to leave any residual mess alone to allow it to dry. This way you can then easily vacuum it up and away from your carpet. Another idea is to pour baking soda onto the damp mess to soak up excess fluid. Allow it to dry and then vacuum it all up.

Never Pour Vinegar

After the area has dried, use a damp towel to gently remove as much as you can with a damp towel by rubbing it back and forth. Once again, avoid applying too much pressure which can drive the mess further into the carpet. Also, never pour vinegar or any other household fluids on the the effected area.

Commercial Stain Removers

There is a litany of commercial carpet cleaners that are now available. Remember to look them over carefully to make sure that you are buying the one that best suits your type of carpeting. For pet stains, there are a number of carpet cleaners that are available that are formulated specifically for this type of stain.

Consider Calling in a Professional

If you are unable to remove the stains in your carpet by conventional means or you are overwhelmed by a large number of stains on your carpet, you may want to bring in a professional. Commercial carpet cleaners use powerful steam cleaning vacuums that can effectively pull up even the deepest filth from your carpet.
